    Wyatt Hamson seated as new Student Trustee, Maggie Stacey thanked for service

    Current Student Trustee Maggie Stacey, 19, of Sesser completed her 2023-24 term and turned the seat over to new Student Trustee Wyatt Hamson, 19, of Belle Rive. Hamson, a student in RLC's agriculture program, won the election in March and will serve the 2024-2025 term.    

    Under New Business, the Board:

    • Approved new courses and curricula, changes to existing courses and authorized their submission to the lllinois Community College Board (ICCB) for action effective on the dates listed.
      RATIONALE: The items have been approved by the Curriculum Committee and Academic Council. These changes improve the college's educational offerings and support efforts to enhance the quality of instruction.
    • Approved the revision of the job description for the part-time Coordinator of Special Events, as presented, effective April 09, 2024.
      RATIONALE: This job description revision is needed to better meet the needs of the institution. 
    • Approved revisions to Rend Lake College Policy and Procedure 2.1720 – Community Use of College Facilities, effective April 09, 2024.
      RATIONALE: Policy revisions are needed to better reflect the needs of the institution.
    • Approved the addendum to the 2024-2025 Rend Lake College Catalog as provided and to authorize additional addendums as needed.
      RATIONALE: The catalog contains information related to academic standards, program requirements and student policies which cover admission, instruction and graduation. As part of the transition to a new student information system, the
      attached revisions are necessary for the accuracy of curriculum tracks and degree audits in Colleague.
    • Approved revisions to Rend Lake College Policy 3.1105 – Workweek and Computation of Hourly Rate of Pay for Full-Time Employees, first reading, effective May 14, 2024.
      RATIONALE: Policy revisions are needed to better reflect the needs of the institution.
    • Granted permission to terminate Rend Lake College Policy 5.1510 – Cashing of Personal Checks, first reading, effective May 14, 2024.
      RATIONALE: Rend Lake College Policy 5.1510 – Cashing of Personal Checks, needs to be terminated to better reflect the needs of the college.
    • Approved revisions to Rend Lake College Policy 3.1405 – Victims Economic Security and Safety Act (VESSA), first reading, effective May 14, 2024.
      RATIONALE: Policy revisions are needed to comply with new legislation (820 ILCS 180) requirements.
    • Approved revisions to Rend Lake College Policy 3.1510 – Family Bereavement Leave, first reading, effective May 14, 2024.
      RATIONALE: Policy revisions are needed to comply with new legislation under the terms of the Child Extended Bereavement Leave Act (820 ILCS 156) requirements.
    • Ratified the award for the purchase of a forklift for $38,479 from Forklifts of St. Louis Inc. 
      RATIONALE: In response to the advertisement for competitive bids, we received four bids. Based on the bid specifications, Forklifts of St. Louis was the lowest bidder for alternate bid two, Electric Forklift.
    • Tabled the ratification award for the purchase of a box truck.
    • Ratified the award for the purchase of a CDL Truck Simulator for $101,350 from Virage Simulation, effective April 9, 2024, pending approval from Delta Regional Authority Grant.
      Rationale: In response to the advertisement for competitive bids the college received the bid from Virage Simulation. 
    • Ratified the award for the purchase of an Electric Vehicle Lab Trainer from Toolkit Technologies, Inc Austin, TX for $87,233.
      RATIONALE: In response to the advertisement for competitive bids, we received the bid from Toolkit Technologies Inc. This purchase is funded through the REV UP grant.
    • Granted permission to purchase a Cohesity immutable backup system for a cost of $232,412.66.
      RATIONALE: An immutable backup system is needed to protect college data and to meet the expectations of cybersecurity insurance providers and auditors. This system backs up data from our internal storage systems and prevents those backups from being altered in order to help prevent ransomware attacks and other cybersecurity threats.


    Under Personnel, the Board:

    • appointed Lisa Tennyson as Specialist – Subsidized Child Care – Child Care Resource and Referral, effective May 01, 2024, and pending completion of a successful background check.
    • appointed Hillary Halsey as Specialist – Recruitment & Student Success, effective April 16, 2024. Halsey has worked at the college since 2012 and is currently the First Year Experience Coordinator. 
    • granted permission to transfer Jessica Bertolozzi from Academic Advisor to Coordinator – First Year Experience, effective May 16, 2024. This position will become vacant due to Halsey’s move to Recruitment and Student Success Specialist.
    • tabled the appointment of Specialist - Public Information.

     

    Under Financial Information, the Board:

    • ratified the payment of college expenses, including travel expense reimbursements, as presented, effective April March 12, 2024.
