Board of Trustees Meeting - March 12, 2024
Meeting Highlights
Student Trustee Election Report:
The Board heard the results of the 2024 Student Trustee Election. Candidates who ran for the 2024-2025 term are Wyatt Hamson, 19, of Belle Rive and Brockton Miller, 19, of Thompsonville. Hamson, a student in RLC's agriculture program, was the winner with 82 percent of the vote. The election was held March 11 and 12 on the Ina Campus. Current Student Trustee Maggie Stacey, 19, of Sesser will turn the seat over to Hamson at next month's Board of Trustees Meeting.
Under New Business, the Board:
- granted permission to bid and award the resurfacing of the parking lots at the Rend Lake College MarketPlace campus, effective March 12, 2024.
RATIONALE: The asphalt is crumbling and deteriorating causing safety hazards and drainage issues. The parking lots are in need of milling, resurfacing, sealing and striping. The project will be completed using existing bond funds. - grant permission to advertise for bids and award for the purchase of a Class B truck and truck driving simulator effective March 12, 2024.
RATIONALE: This Class B truck and truck driving simulator will be purchased with grant funds awarded from the Delta Regional Authority. This equipment will be utilized for the truck driving program.
Under Personnel, the Board:
- accepted, with regret, the resignation of Heather Maschhoff, Student Success Recruitment Specialist, effective March 8, 2024.
- appointed Dara Whaley as full-time Student Support Services/TRIO Advisor, effective March 18, 2024, pending a successful background check.
- appointed Kelly Cunningham as full-time Title III Student Success System Developer, effective April 15, 2024, pending a successful background check.
- appointed Tyler Staats as full-time Coordinator – SI Manufacturing Academy, effective March 18, 2024, pending a successful background check.
- tabled the appointment of a Subsidized Child Care Specialist.
Under Financial Information, the Board:
- ratified the payment of college expenses, including travel expense reimbursements, as presented, effective March 12, 2024.
