Meeting Highlights
Under New Business, the Board:
- Approved the revisions to Rend Lake College Policy 1.1400 – Meetings of the Board, first reading, effective June 11, 2024. This added that unexpected childcare obligations qualify a member of the Board to not be physically present at a meeting and vote, by voice, by video or audio conference.
RATIONALE: Policy revisions are needed to comply with new legislation under the terms of the Open Meetings Act (5 ILCS 120/7) requirements. - Approved the revisions to Rend Lake College Policy and Procedure 4.1600 – Criteria for Awarding Credit, effective June 11, 2024.
RATIONALE: Policy revisions are needed to better meet the needs of the institution. - Approved the revisions to Rend Lake College Policy and Procedure 3.1115 – Stipends, effective July 1, 2024.
RATIONALE: The stipend list reflects revisions to better meet the needs of the college. - Approval the Revisions to Rend Lake College Policy & Procedure 3.1715 – Tuition Waivers, first reading, effective July 9, 2024.
RATIONALE: These revisions better meet the needs of the college. - TABLED: Ratify Purchase of Used Class 7 Box Truck
- Ratified the Award for Purchase of Van for College Fleet, effective June 11, 2024.
RATIONALE: In response to the advertisements for competitive bids, we received the following bids. Based on the bid specifications, Greg Weeks Benton, Inc was the low bidder. - Approved the Revisions to Rend Lake College Policy and Procedure 2.1200 – Addressing Discrimination and Harassment, first reading, Including Sexual Assault, Sexual Misconduct, Sexual Violence, Domestic Violence, Dating Violence and Stalking, effective August 1, 2024.
RATIONALE: This policy is being revised to better reflect the institution’s organization and needs, and to align with recently released federal regulations - Granted Permission to Accept Proposal for Campus Signage Redesign and Installation, effective June 11, 2024.
RATIONALE: We received one proposal from T-Ham Signs, Inc in Mt. Vernon, IL. Offering the design and replacement of campus signage in the amount of $73,957.56. - Approved the Additions to Rend Lake College Academic Integrity Statements, effective June 11, 2024.
RATIONALE: A.I. generated material and technology continues to advance and enter the education space. As an institution, we must assist our students with its judicious and proper use as it relates to their education and growth as individuals. - Approved the Joint Agreement for Dual Credit Educational Cooperation Between Rend Lake College, District #521 and John A. Logan College, District #530, effective Fall 2024 – Spring 2025.
RATIONALE: This Joint Agreement will allow the community colleges listed above
to provide additional educational programs to the high school students of each
district. - Granted Permission to Purchase Radiologic Technology Program Phantom, effective June 11, 2024.
RATIONALE: Radiological Phantoms simulate body parts, thus allowing the
student a realistic learning experience. Section 20-25 of the Illinois Procurement Code (30 ILCS 500/20-25) allows contracts to be awarded without using a competitive bid process when there is only one economically feasible source for an item.
Under Personnel, the Board:
- Accepted, with regret, the resignation of Mr. Jonathon Walters, Learning Innovation & Design Director, effective June 3, 2024.
- Accepted, with regret, the retirement resignation of Mr. Nigel Thompson, Automotive Professor, effective May 31, 2024
- TABLED: Appointment of Academic Advisor
- Appointed Ms. Lindsey Batts as Financial Aid Specialist, pending a successful background check, effective June 24, 2024.
- Appointed Mr. Jay Copple as Automotive Technology Instructor pending a successful background check, effective August 15, 2024.
Under Financial Information, the Board:
- Ratified the payment of college expenses, including travel expense reimbursements, as presented, effective June 11, 2024.
